Does conceptual art need special abilities to become recognised and successful? INT. SERPENTINE GALLERY, EVENING You can see a large, white gallery with lots of windows on the celeste. The rooms are full of brightly coloured works hanging on the walls and light projectors directed towards them. There are some minimalistic installations with wooden and metallic objects. There is an external shot of Central London through a huge window placed in the centre. There is no furniture except for one black sofa in the corner. The simplicity of the entire exhibition is giving a sensation of the cool and static atmosphere. As we pan across, we see two men. There is Michael Craig-Martin wearing a grey suit and a tie. When I need to draw a tree I even measure all the spaces between leaves to arrive at the idea of a perfect drawing. I wouldn’t tell you more about the golden section, for example. This oil painting on canvass was created in 1470 by Paolo Uccello (whose real name is Paolo di Dono), an Italian artist. The subject of the painting is the story of Saint George as he overpowers and slays the dragon that has been a menace and a fright to the citizens of the city.
